Some believe that if a butterfly flaps its wings in a far-away place on one side of the world, this small action can cause- or prevent- a large scale event such as an avalanche or tornado on the other side of the world.

This theory, called "The Butterfly Effect" is all about cause and effect- disruption and change. However small the change may be, or however simple the disruption to the normal flow and status quo, a new pattern emerges- a new cause and effect.
